If you want a break from the Monster Mash Halloween classic, look no further than Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’. The iconic video that was directed by John Landis is perfect for a modern twist to ghoulish Halloween music. ‘Thriller’, that was always in vogue ,is back in the public eye as an innovative Halloween theme. Kinds can choreograph their own zombie dance and moon-walk in their costumes, with a jewelled glove accessory to match. Now you can boogie in style on Halloween eve, or play the legendary Vincent Price of the Thriller Video. In 1983, ‘Thriller’ catapulted MJ to the top of the pop charts and critics still agree that it was light years ahead of its time. Now HIStory, the King of Pop’s lore rather, is hogging the limelight less than a year after a death that aficionados say was caused by a quack medico who gave heavy doses of opioid painkillers to MJ. Kenny Ortega is all set to direct a movie inspired by the Thriller Video. The docu on the last tour of MJ ‘This is It’, released posthumously to rave reviews and this has egged on Ortega to go ahead with the Thriller movie. The 14 minute 1983 video remains inspirational for songsters and broke the glass ceiling for Black artists in the mainstream market. MJ’s travails with his self-image, and his “black skin, white masks” Fanonian conundrum have taken up reams of print. This Halloween though, one can say for MJ, “The King is Dead, Long Live the King!” |
