Edison Pena overcame his two month ordeal buried underground in a Chilean mine, and now wants to finish the New York City Marathon

Pena reportedly jogged through the mine tunnels during the prolonged rescue bid that gripped the world, and has now outran destiny and surfaced like a phoenix from the ashes on to the NY streets.

Chilean miner Edison Pena is not letting his bad knee stifle his spirit, and even though it might take him more than 6 hours to reach the touchline, Pena is not deterred.

While he ran inside the Chilean mine tunnels, he would tell himself that he would run down destiny with his unflappable spirit and gritty courage. He said to reporters after flying in to NY that after outrunning grim destiny, the New York City Marathon was his next target.

Haile Gebrselassie, the world-record holder for marathon was there to give a warm welcome to Edison Pena as his plane landed in NY. Edison Pena said that meeting the marathon luminary was an ‘incredible’ experience.

Edison Pena turned out to be a media darling and a crowd pleaser with his natty dressing, sporting a classy dark suit as he sang ‘Return to Sender’, the Elvis Presley number.

Mary Wittenberg, President of NY Road Runners, celebrated his spirit. Edison Pena asked the media not to pile on the expectation as his knees may buckle under him and let him down in Rafael Nadal style. Receiver Amani Toomer is also set to run. Expect Hollywood celebs to troop in.
