Some of the world’s best soccer players will appear in South Africa wearing environmentally-friendly equipment, and different national teams will be using jerseys produced completely by recycled polyester. Nike is determined to make a difference and hopes that their new technology will create an impact on the environment.

They found a good source of thrown away plastic bottles especially in Japan and Taiwan. Their technology saves natural materials, reducing energy by up to 30%. Using the new technology, Nike prevented almost 13,000,000 plastic bottles from landfills, saving over 250 tones of polyester. They may cover almost 2,000 miles with the resulted jerseys. This is an important step that belongs to Nike’s long term strategy of making their products more eco friendly.

Another intention is to keep players cooler, drier and more comfortable, maintaining an optimal temperature for their bodies. The air may pass around a player`s whole body and this will keep him cooler by 200 laser cut loopholes that generate some ventilation zones. The new team knit will have a double knit structure, giving more stretch than before, with a new dynamic contours, following the body.

Grace to creative designers, Nike hopes to surprise the national teams with their new artistic concept that will combine different specific elements of each of the nine nation that will be involved in this project, including Brazil, United States, Portugal, and The Netherlands. The new products will be available starting today.
