After delivering the biggest win ever in South Carolina, coach Steve Spurrier can now afford a smile. After smiling, he said that ‘this game was meant to be’. This seemed surely like it, judging by the way Gamecocks played. Win a Boost to Spurrier's Career Steve Garcia managed to throw three touchdown passes. Marcus Lattimore scored thrice. This is the first time that the Gamecocks were beating a team that had been ranked No. 1. Spurrier’s career got a major boost as a result of this dramatically positive turn of event. South Carolina has been rather solid under Spurrier, although, it is yet to win the SEC EAST. The current bunch of Gamecocks may be able to change this merely through a winning mix of highly dynamic players aided by dominating defenders, who could keep them in the chase for the title all season long. Opponents have not had any meaningful chances against Alabama within the past few seasons. South Carolina shredded the nation’s top-rated scoring defense, thereby putting up a surprisingly high number of points. Alabama coach Nick Saban refused to admit that his team was beaten by Spurrier’s team, saying that his team was only out-executed. ‘They played better than us, they were more intense, and more physical’ said Saban. Alabama attempted to rally back just as it had against Arkansas exactly two games ago, only that this time, they cut South Carolina’s 21-3 lead to an impressive 28-21, whereby most of the fourth quarter had already left. Spurrier’s win was the 107th SEC victory, which broke the tie for second with the Mississippi great Johnny vaught. Image Credit: |
