Norman Wisdom Dies at 95

A son of the renowned comic actor, Sir Norman Wisdom has confirmed that the London-born comic Star actor is dead at 95. Sir Norman Wisdom in the Isle of Man The actor is well known for many slapstick roles in film in 1950s-60s, well known for playing as Norman Pitkin against the frustrated Mr Grimsdale. Sir Norman Wisdom had gained a cultic following in Albania, mostly because his films were the only ones from the west that were allowed. The family of the celebrated film icon said he passed away at a nursing home on Monday evening, on the Isle of Man. He had suffered a number of strokes in six months. The statement had indicated Sir Norman had sustained “a series of strokes” that brought about a general health decline, mentally and physically. The statement also said that the actor had been independent until couple of days ago, with his condition deteriorating rapidly. Without distress or pain, the actor had passed away in peace at 1846 hours on 4 October. Those who knew him personally, such as Lyricist Sir Tim Rice had said that the old actor was one of the childhood heroes that had no qualms with being visited in real life, a funny and delightful man. The London born actor was knighted in 2000, known so much for many comic roles that led to Charlie Chaplin describing Norman as his favorite clown. His latest work includes playing Billy Ingleton in the BBC’s long running comedy, The Last of the Summer Wine. Image Credit: |
