Ohio’s unemployment rate dips

The good news is that the latest figures say that Ohio’s unemployment rate has dipped. The bad news is that there has been a proportionate fall in the workforce population too.

Bill Cohen the statehouse correspondent quipped that the numbers can be tweaked by both Ted Strickland, the Democrat incumbent governor and by Republican John Kasich for their own ends.

The state department that looks to Job creation and family companies said that there was not much to cheer about Central Ohio’s waning unemployment rate this September, as the workforce too had dwindled.

The figures last year were a record level of unemployment with 8.6 % tagged for last year. Things looked up this year with 8.3 % in August in a seven-county region total, and the September figure went down to hit 8.2 %.

The rosiest scenario is in Delaware County with only 6.7 % unemployed, while Pickaway County is in for tough times with a 9.7 % level.

Those employed in non-agricultural activities stood at 866,400, with these employees listed under nonfarm payroll. The ranks of those actively job seeking had dwindled.

Clinton County which bore the brunt of the DHL cutbacks, recorded high levels of unemployment, while Holmes County was unaffected by it. The official figures and charts are now in the public domain for viewing, so you know where the job scene is looking up and where there are doldrums. The state department may roll out special incentive packages for regions facing a major job cutback crisis.
