An earthquake of 5.1 magnitude on Richter Scale shook Central Oklahoma today which had its epicenter around eight miles from Norman. Although this earthquake caused much frenzy among the people it caused little damage. Reports by the Norman police suggested there were no cases of serious damage or injuries in the city. The Norman Regional Hospital also did not report any new admissions because of injuries suffered from the quake. Several people claimed that they had felt the shaking of buildings and rattling of windows but did not see any serious damage being done. The Sheriff of Cleveland County however said calls were flooding the 911 centre and only one incident of serious damage had been reported though he was unaware of the exact location of the damage. The damage was insignificant in the eastern parts of the country and no injury has been reported so far. It was seen that due to the earthquake all the babies stopped crying and the dogs in the locality were seen barking. Thus the earthquake caused a minor rumble and had mirrors shaking, windows rattled and plenty of baffled people running out to the streets in fear. In Purcell, which is located about 12 miles south of Norman, it was a bit more severe with phone lines getting disturbed and shaking of walls. Some incidents of cracked walls were also reported. The courthouse and the schools were also immediately evacuated but actually there were no real major reports of damage of any kind. |
