Plane Crash in Russia Claims the Life of the Polish President

Russian officials are confirming today the Polish president was killed in a tragic plane crash. His wife, Maria, and all 132 passengers aboard the plane were also killed. The governor of Smolensk has confirmed there were no survivors, and the Polish Ministry also confirmdent was aboard the plane. The plane crashed around the Smolensk airport at 10 : 56 Russian time. The plane was trying to land but did not make the landing strip. Apparently it was flying too low and was caught up in trees, crash landed and fell to pieces. The president was traveling with senior officials. According to the manifest, the National Bank president, Army Chief of Staff, and the Deputy Foreign Minister were all on board the plane. In Warsaw, the Prime Minister has called his cabinet together for an emergency meeting. The trip was to honor the 70th anniversary of a massacre that occurred in the Katyn forest. Thousands of Polish people were massacred by Russian secret police. President Kaczynski is survived by one daughter and two grandchildren. Image Credit: s the Presi
