Dr. Andrew Ress, A certified plastic surgeon has pioneered a new breast reconstructive surgery procedure done after a less scarring mastectomy. In an interview, the Dr. said that while an incision in the traditional way goes transversely across the breast, the new one allows for going up and down. Thus a bikini can be worn or even a low-cut type of top without the incision showing. He claims that it’s much similar to what is done in breast lifts, thus the procedure is being done through what is known in cosmetic surgery and developed for reconstruction purposes. Breast Reconstruction Surgery Very Popular in the Country The procedure is even being carried on young patients in their 20s, something very important for young women. Thus real breasts are made to look just like breasts, natural ones, should. The plastic surgeon has been carrying out the procedure for around 18 months. This is made possible by a new technology in the form of a material for patching, known as acellular dermis put on breast’s undersurface giving it some extra reinforcement. Devoid of this, the used tissue expander could just push via the skin, but the technology allows the technique to be effected. These products are known as FlexHD and Alloderm. However, the Dr. confirmed there are other implants that are being tried by Food and Drug Administration, which are firmer, shaped like breasts and implants that are form-fitting, different from those that just hang around. The implants under FDA trials are alternatives to the implant currently in use, according to the plastic surgeon. Image Credit: |
