Christopher Plummer gave a boost to the promo pitch of the 45th anniversary DVD edition of ‘The Sound of Music’ by appearing with the cast members of the 1965 classic on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’. TV queen Oprah teamed up with Christopher Plummer, Julie Andrews and others to reminisce about the film. The movie musical is being marketed by 20th Century Fox in Blu-ray version for of ‘The Sound of Music’ aficionados. The 40th-anniversary DVD five years back is remembered more for the side-splitting spoof by Nicole Parker and MADtv’s Michael McDonald. Parker donned the Julie Andrews mantle while comedian Michael McDonald played Christopher Plummer. The gang appearing on Oprah’s show talked about the good old days and the making of the film. Christopher Plummer broke from sentimentality running to drivel, saying with wry humour that he had nicknamed the movie musical ‘The Sound of Mucus.’ He said he drank like a fish during the Austria leg of shooting. Julie Andrews talked about the best musical made ever, giving inside dope on filming of some iconic scenes. She said that a 1990s throat operation made her lose her dulcet voice, and she feared never being able to sing again. Now though she can mostly sing “Old Man River” to match her exacting standards. The ‘Von Trapp children’ actors too were part of the gig on Oprah. The beloved classic is a huge money-spinner for 20th Century Fox, so expect another deluxe DVD set five years down the line. |
