Results for Prop 19 were negative, with disappointed MJ diggers saying that drug dealers had deliberately sabotaged the legalization bid so that they continue to make a killing with underhand pot dealings. Others said that a more feasible explanation was that the demographic of elderly voters and senior citizens had tilted the vote in favour of a thumbs down to the legalization of marijuana. Nancy Pelosi after her win stayed mute on the link drawn between MJ and gambling. The vote proves that however liberal California may be, the laws are not bending anytime before 2012. Brian Bellsten said that the ‘legalize MJ’ campaign, which will supposedly reduce the fiscal deficit and raise money for the government, might have taken a beating but the bid was still very much alive and on. He hoped that other state groups will follow suit and take up the example trail blazed by them. It is Tea Party time for sure, with Republicans pulling the carpet from under Obama, but you still cannot lace your cuppa legally with pot.Republicans won a staggering number of seats to wrest control of the House, and the senatorial seat in Illinois, Obama’s previous seat, too was swept by Republican Mark Kirk. But the Democrats have bragging rights after winning the mother of all races when Harry Reid continued as Senate Majority Leader after pipping Sharron Angle to the coveted post. Meanwhile, MJ buffs hope that they can rid themselves of the seedy rip-off drug dealer in 2012. Image Credit: |
