Some like it Hot, and Tony Curtis sure must have loved the warm farewell given to him at Palm Mortuary in rollicking Las Vegas, on the quaint 7600 S. Eastern Avenue on Monday. A public funeral was held to accommodate a swelling number of admirers and friends who had gathered to bid farewell to their beloved superstar.

Hollywood luminaries were flanked by the legend’s daughter, actress Jamie Lee Curtis. At the ceremony, a video montage of his glittering oeuvre was streamed, as fans paid fitting tribute to the man whose career was an assortment of the critic’s and film-goer’s delight alike. The service which began at 11 am was televised live , for the film aficionados who could not make it to the event to commemorate the iconic actor.

The pallbearers of the ceremony figured many A-list names, and Arnold Schwarzenegger was heard saying how Curtis that placed a bet saying the terminator would sure be Mayor. Daughter Jamie Lee Curtis has long been estranged from him, but overcame past rancour to say good bye to dad. She paid the tribute of a white flower, laying it on the casket. She endearingly said that her father was “a little meshuga” – that is Yiddish for kind of crazy – but brimming with verve and life always. His wife Jill Curtis eulogized the legend at the ceremony.

Ever the defiant one, cardiac arrest or even death could not dampen him. The videomontage ended with a shot of Curtis vigorously shaking his head, as if he refused the death verdict and wanted a robust second innings. Curtis was buried with an assortment of his beloved stuff- a Stetson hat, a tech-savvy iPhone, a swish Armani scarf and the novel “Anthony Adverse,” from where it all began. The King is dead, long live the King.
