Removing Troops From Iraq Are Being Carried As Planned

US Troops in IraqThe troop withdrawal from Iraq that will be going on this summer is being carried out as planned. When the President approved the plan, it was assumed that the new Iraqi government would be set up while our troops were being withdrawn. Months later, the troop withdrawal remains even though things are not going as planned with the Iraqi government.

As thousands of troops get ready to leave, it maybe months before the new government is properly set up. The election proved to be very messy with delays along the way. Mr. Obama has held no meeting on this subject in months with his security team. The White House is insisting they have no plans to bring the issue back up on the withdrawal.

When the president ran for office, one of his promises was to end the Iraqi war. So this will be a test if he actually will keep his promise. Even though the president has been flexible on other promises, the plan to leave Iraq by August has been consistent. The remaining fifty-thousand advisers and trainers will be leaving toward the end of 2011.

For the President, moving the withdrawal deadline would prove difficult for both political and logistical reasons. As troops are being removed from Iraqi they are being sent to Afghanistan. With more troops in Afghanistan, Mr. Obama’s liberals are angry at him for the buildup. Delaying the withdraw from Iraqi could cause more concern on the left.
