RICE, TEXAS RIPPED BY F2 TORNADO

Rice is a small town located outside Dallas in eastern Texas. A Texas tornado ripped through this town on Sunday and devastated it with four being injured and five homes have been completely destroyed. Rice, with a total population of less than a thousand was treated to winds whose speed reached up to 125 mph. The video footage of the storm was also captured by the emergency management coordinator of the county, Eric Meyers from his car at a location about 45 miles distant from Dallas.
The heavy storm hit Rice, Texas at about 5:30 pm on Sunday. A twister named F2 was also noticed in the tornado. Several roofs were ripped off from homes and also from the local elementary school. Officials estimate the damage in property caused due to the storm. The total cost of the damage caused is calculated to be around three and five million dollars.
The F2 tornado was one of the possible four or five tornadoes in have hit Texas on Sunday. These possible tornadoes are being investigated by the National Weather Service. However, all the tornadoes were very brief and short lived.
The tornado has been listed as F2 tornado where the F ratings stand for Fujita scale tornadoes. The speed of winds in this tornado of around 125 miles per hour is considered to a “significant tornado”. Thus this one is listed as a “strong” tornado. About 25 percent all the tornadoes each year get this rating while the F4 or F5 listed “violent” tornadoes take place only 1 percent of the time.
