A 19 year old student of University of California named Lucas Ransom died after being attacked by a shark at Surf Beach, a popular beach which is located near Santa Barbara, CA and is owned by Vandenberg Air Force Base.
According to reports, officials say the boy of Romoland in Riverside County died after he was pulled off his boogie board by a shark about 100 yards from the shore. He was very badly wounded on his left leg. The attack was reported to have happened before 9:00 a.m. the victim was boogie boarding in the surf line with his friend Matthew Garcia when he was attacked by the shark all of a sudden.
The shark as described by the witnesses is said to be 14 to 20 feet in length. Also its been suspected the attack was made by a white shark.
The blue water of the ocean was overcome by a red wave, as commented by his friend. Garcia could see the red body board of Ransom which was attached to the victim’s body by a cord and went ahead to rescue his friend. He tried to revive Ransom with chest compressions while bringing him towards the shore. An eye witness said Ransom’s leg was bitten off and too much blood had been lost and efforts to stop the bleeding also did not give fruitful results.
Ransom died a short while after he was brought to the shore at Surf Beach.
Due to this accident, all the three shores at Vanderberg Air Force Base were ordered to remain shut for three days.
