Social Media Verses Technology

A conflict is brewing between emerging technology and the use of social networks in all sectors of the country.

Courts Challenged by Advanced Technology

In court the job for all the parties was clear and known to them, the jury questioned, the plaintiff brought evidence, so did the defense and things were simple and easy.

That was then, a case in Weld District Court seems to have come to challenge the status quo. The case pitted two gangs, uncooperative witnesses and defiant jury.

The law prohibits use of cell phones in court but in this case that was not the case as people entered, busy using their phones as though they were in a theater filming the events as they unfolded from the stage. Some were even chatting by texting in the court room.

The advance in technology is having such a devastating effect on the wheels of justice, cases have been reported where accused persons have sent messages to people to hide highly incriminating material, jury members placing their ideas on a particular case in the most used social networks, people are posting court proceeding in the internet making them subject to public debate.

The fairness and justness of court rulings are becoming subject to question due to the availability and advance of technology and mistrials have been the order of the day.

This is going to be a problem and an issue which seems to have its solution not anywhere close to being solved. The technology has driven everyone so close to one another even when the distance is so big and the ability to post material via the mobile phone is not helping the situation.
