The Crimson Tide was left bloodied, battered and bruised. No. 19 B South Carolina pulled off an upset win when they humbled No. 1 Alabama. Garcia and Gamecocks proved phenomenal in cashing in on chances whenever they got near the goal line and they shredded to bits the best tailback duo hailed all over the country. They are now sure to make themselves count in the SEC title chase.
The South Carolina coach in his sixth season at the helm of affairs, had the tactics and player arsenal to beat Alabama at their own game.
South Carolina ripped through what is rated as the country’s top scoring defence, totting up a whopping 5-1, 2-1 points against No. 1 Alabama. The defeat margin left Alabama reeling, as such a debacle is unprecedented since they lost 41-34 loss to LSU in 2007. The Gamecocks managed to score an astounding four touchdowns.
Alabama tried to stage a comeback as they had in their victory over Arkansas with a nail-biting verdict of 24-20 just two games ago. But Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson were stymied by the minnows as they were held to 64 yards. The Crimson Tide rallied from a 21-9 deficit to a fighting 28-21 score.
Cheerleaders and South Carolina fans egged on their team, breaking into delirious celebrations at the victory over the top-ranked team. Alabama would do well to remember the David versus Goliath tale. For now, it is party time for South Carolina.
