Richmond is all set for celebrating the 33rd year of SunTrust Richmond Marathon. One of the biggest athletic events of the state, scheduled on November 13, 2010, is expected to start in a few hours. According to the reports, the marathon, which has always garnered huge popularity among the athletes have attracted contestants from different countries. Reports state, contestants from 16 countries and 47 states have registered for this year’s marathon event, which is quite an honor for the organizers.
Richmond marathon, which has been an all time favorite of the athletes, will start in a few hours and people have great expectations from the champions of last year. As per the sources, this year, more than six thousand athletes are expected to turn up for the race, which is all time high for this event. Last year, the number of participants for this marathon was 15,723. Though the number for last year was quite high, it is expected that the registrations for this year’s event will exceed the figures of last year. The actual number of registration submitted for the race has not yet been released by the officials. Therefore, people will have to wait for some more time to get the actual statistics in hand.
As the Richmond marathon is scheduled to start from 8 a.m. in the morning and will run through different streets, it is quite obvious that the many roads will remain closed in the morning. Therefore, before going out, it will be better to check the information of road closures for the marathon and avoid any sort of confusion.
