The Oil Spill has Long Term Effects

Oiled BirdOne of the constant stories in the news recently has been due to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. While efforts are being made to clean it up including removing oil from the surface there is still so much that we don’t fully understand about the problem or the long term effects it will have. Still, the fact that we have been able to remove about 620,000 gallons of oil from the water is definitely some progress.

A cap has been put over the oil spill but that hasn’t fully resolved the spread of it. There are at least 20,000 gallons per day leaking from it. Many experts believe that is a conservative figure though and much more than that is still spilling over. This is definitely being categorized as the worst oil spill in history so it is certainly no small matter.

President Obama continues to be a driving force in getting things under control. He has made several visits there recently. He is going to go to the states mostly affected including Florida, Mississippi, and Alabama in the days ahead. He has already spent a great deal of time in Louisiana as well. He wasn’t to get answers and find out who is responsible for the mess. The images he has seen are also very hard to taken in. However, he feels he has a duty to the people of the United States to take action.
