The Republicans Shoot Down Jobless Benefits Scheme

Those who have been benefiting from the jobless benefit scheme have a new thing to worry about, because the scheme which expires in December will not be renewed. All this is because the Republicans shot down the bill which would have seen the scheme extended.

Congress: Reps Brought Down Scheme for the Unemployed

As they Shot down the bill, the Republicans said the money which have been used in extending the benefits, to February, should be added to the bill on economic stimulus.

The White House is not pleased with the activities happening in the Congress. This is based on the fact that White House has been fighting for tax cuts for the rich and insurance for the jobless.

The rules needed a two-thirds majority to go through but Republicans said the move would make it impossible to offset its costs and said helping the economic stimulus was far much better than what was proposed.

The issue has been thorny throughout the year.

Recessions, since 1950, has been succeeded by a huge financial deficit. The Democrats had no option but to follow the precedents set by former regimes but Republicans were unsupportive.

The Republicans have taken every opportunity to stall jobless benefits and lucky to them they have gone unpunished for their actions.

With the benefits expiring in the holiday season, thanks to the Republicans, they could be in for a shock based on the fact that tax cuts for upper-income taxpayer do not expire.

This is disturbing to some of the law makers as it may be oppressing to the low income earners.

The legislators are willing to negotiate and strike a deal by the end of the year as part of the legislation to be discussed by the final part of the year.
