The World Series 2010 kicked off with the 1st game being played between the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers. However, singer Tony Bennett hogged much of the limelight by his sterling performance.
Tony Bennett is a 15 time Grammy award winner and is still a star at the age of 84. He is a native of Queens, New York. However, the star has become the crowd favourite by his signature song “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” which shows his love for the city. He sang this song after the first inning of the game. This song will always be remembered for being sung when the Golden Gate Bridge was reopened after the 1989 earthquake and has won many hearts from then. It was also sung during the World Series then, in that year.
Bennett took the field after the seventh inning of the match and sung the hit song “God Bless America” which is one the most famous songs and even the most renowned one. The one sung last night is one of the best renditions that have been heard since it was first sung following September 11, 2001. The traditional crooner style of the singer with long pauses and holds, architectured the song to be an extremely enjoyable experience.
The outcome of the match was the loss of the Rangers with Cliff Lee being somewhat out of tune. The Giants won 11- 7 last night. Tony Bennett even at this age manages to enthral his audiences with his performances.
