Two tornadoes hit northern Arizona, derailing a train, and scything through smash homes early Wednesday. The freight train saw 28 of its cars swept off the tracts in a devastating blitz. Bellemont bore the brunt of the tornadoes, lying west of Flagstaff. Houses were crumpled like tin cans and more than a hundred evacuated people need rehabilitation, having lost their homes. Temporary shelters were being built for them.

Rescue and relief efforts went in full swing in the Baderville area, where those trapped under houses were successfully rescued. More than 35 RVs were trashed at a vehicle venture in Bellemont, with the RV camp ravaged with the ferocity of the tornado.

Spokesman Gerry Blair of the County Sheriff’s Office of Coconino says that efforts are on to access the extent of the damage and bemoaned the losses wreaked by the disaster.

The crew of the stationary freight train that was swept off was safe, said spokeswoman Lena Kent of Burlington Northern-Santa Fe. Railroads were repaired are lines are opening for traffic now.

Tempestuous weather conditions had earlier prevailed on Wednesday, with a blinding sheet of rain in Nevada, hail poundings in Phoenix with, and snow dumps on the Sierra.

Arizona has to appease the weather gods soon, what with the hammering that it got. A low pressure zone in California, trees getting uprooted in Phoenix, hail that shut airports, traffic snarls on flooded highways, the catalogue of woes is endless. Do not believe the Met department or step out of the house
