Yemen: Security and Intelligence Agencies Under Attack

Reports from witnesses said that there were heavy clashes about the intelligence and security agency offices in Zinjibar, a coastal town.

The gunmen in large numbers came in motorbikes and continued to open fire, where they left about two police officers dead. Police source indicate the belief is that al-Qaeda could have caused the attacks.

Reports from eyewitnesses also indicated there were many bodies spread across the street after the gunmen attacks, believing the casualty numbers would rise, inadvertently.

The gunmen used launched rocket grenades, to open fire and enhanced it with machine guns in the attack of the office dealing with general security of Yemen as well as the intelligence.
After the attack, a number of the gunmen escaped.

In the Arabian Peninsula as analysts say, there has been increased al-Qaeda activity where it has a stronghold in Yemeni’s tribal regions.

The terrorist group is also believed to have been waging deadly attacks in the country, such as a raid in the agency of domestic intelligence in June, in Aden, Yemen, where about thirteen people lost their lives.
