Another popular over the counter drug has been added by the makers of Tylenol and Benadryl to their kitty of recalled products. The latest recall has been issued of around 128,000 bottles of Tylenol 8 Hour caplets after several complaints were registered of moldy or musty odor. This has been issued in the month of October 2010. This odor has been caused due to the presence of specimens of a chemical called 2,4,6-tribrommoanisole. The products have been sold in the United States and Puerto Rico. BCM155 is the lot number of this product.
However, the company, McNeil Consumer Healthcare issued a statement saying adverse effects of using the product is very less and there would not be any serious health issues, although it is advisable not to use the products which have been issued to be recalled.
Adverse health reports of side effects occurring due to the use of this product have been reported to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The harmful effects include various health complications, hospitalization, disability and it may even lead to death.

The company had prompted Congressional inquiry due to the several recalls on its various products on non prescription cold and pain drugs like Motrin, Tylenol and Benadryl.
Previously, in November five lots of Tylenol Arthritis Pain 100 count with the EZ- open cap were recalled based on complaints of unusual odor which caused stomach pain, nausea, vomiting and also diarrhoea.
