UFC 121 RESULTS: LESNAR LOSES, VELASQUEZ THE NEW CHAMP

Another great night of fights was presented by the UFC with a whole lot of gruelling fights making it a pleasurable evening for all the wrestling fans. The evening started with the Spike TV preliminaries, then the fight of Jake Shields against Martin Kampmann and ultimately ending with the loss of Brock Lesnar at the hands of Cain Velasquez.
The night started with two great fights on Spike TV. Firstly, Tom Lawlor outclassed Patrick Cote, the former Middleweight contender on the ground and picked up a win with a clear unanimous decision. It was followed by the battle between TUF winner Court McGee and Ryan Jensen. McGee won, after a having a rough first round and finished the fight in the third round with the help of a slick arm triangle.
Next, it was time for Brendan Schaub to have the honours after he won against veteran Gabriel Gonzaga in a unanimous decision. Matt Hamil beat his former coach and friend, Tito Ortiz with a unanimous decision. Tito faired well in the first round but faltered after taking hard shots in the second.
Diego Sanchez found his form against Paulo Thiago, rallying to victory after losing the first round and gifting the audience with the two most exciting rounds of the night in the last two.
After making a rough start to his UFC career, Jake Shields took the first and second rounds before losing the third to be successful against Martin Kampmann by a split decision.
The main fight between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez was won by the latter to be the new UFC Heavyweight Champion. The bout was billed to be the greatest heavyweight fight in UFC history and ended with the loss of the former champion who in spite of starting well lost to a more tenacious opponent.
