Venus Williams defeated Shahar Peer of Israel to reach the quarterfinals of the US Open Tennis tournament for the 10th time. She is number 3 seeded player while Peer is a 16th seeded one. She won the match 7-6, 6-3 on Sunday and she is all set to face French Open champion Francesca Schiavone in the quarter finals.

Venus Williams has won the US Open championship two times and she had been off the court for more than two months as she was suffering from a left kneecap injury. It was really painful and as a result, she had to skip a number of important events during this time.

Williams had won all the 10 sets they have played previously. But in this match, she had to struggle a bit to win the first set. Her big serve was broken twice by Peer and she was giving solid returns. Williams was a bit bothered by the swirling wind inside the Arthur Ashe stadium.

She took entire control of the match finally in the tiebreaker, when she took four consecutive points and that includes a service winner and an ace. Peer has not been able to reach the quarter finals of any Grand Slam tournament in the last three years, while Williams is a seven time Grand Slam champion.
