A plot to bomb a DC Metro Stations has seen a man arrested.

Farooque Ahmed, from Virginia, Ashburn, 34 years old, had been conspiring with individuals he was sure are from the terrorism network, al-Qaeda, as the Justice Department said.

Farooque was arrested this morning and in case he is convicted, he will be facing close to 50 years behind bars.

The 34 year old suspect alleged he had carried out some surveillance of a specific Arlington metro station, just about Washington DC around four times.

Ahmed arrest comes as there is an increase of heightened investigations on residents and citizens of the United States on their involvement in cases of terror plots and domestic terrorism. In 2009, arrests on plans made to bomb such cities, as Illinois, Colorado and Texas were plenty.

What comes in the mind of many is the recent plan to bomb New York’s Times Square by Faisal Shahzad.
Neil MacBride, the United States Attorney, said that it was very chilling that an individual from the heart of Ashburn is now accused of rail stations casing with the sole aim of having as many Metro riders killed, via different levels of bomb attacks.

He also said that the Wednesday arrests heralded the threat of terrorism within the Northern Virginia area as well as the government’s ability to find individuals who were trying to harm the citizens of the United States, neutralizing them prior to making any plans come into fruition.
