So far two people have been killed. While running for cover, one person was hit by a car running, and another was killed when his house collapsed on him. Mexicali has stated an emergency as it was near the epicenter of the quake. There is search and rescue going on for people trapped in buildings. Teams of equipment and dogs were brought in for help from nearby Tijuana. Mexicali has a population of 900,000. Power was out in a lot of places. Hospitals power was decreased as well as that in public buildings. Roads, electrical lines, and bridges were being inspected at this time. In Tijuana, buildings swayed as families had gathered for Easter ceremonies now running for cover. The US Geological Service stated it struck Baja California sixteen miles SW of Guadalupe Victoria. It had a depth of 10km making it a shallow quake. Image Credit: |
