Winners at the Emmys

The International Emmys, which were hosted in New York by Jason Priestly, saw a number of internationally acclaimed productions win various awards. The best actor prize was won by Bob Hoskins for his role in the BBC Show, ‘One Street’ which no longer airs. The 68-year old actor was however, not present to receive his award in person.

The title for Best Actress went to Bonham Carter who starred in ‘Small Island’, a biopic about Enid Blyton. The mini-series which scooped an award as the best in its category portrays the author of the ‘Famous Five’ books as having had a troubled childhood and being an unsuitable mother to her children. The actress, who stars opposite Matthew MacFadyen in the BBC series, was also absent at the awards.

Meanwhile, the children’s award went to ‘Shaun the Sheep’, a CBBC show. Former Idols judge, Simon Cowell was honored for his work in TV and charitable causes. The 51-year old, had earlier this year, left the widely acclaimed talent show, American Idol, and started his own talent show, X-Factor. Receiving the award from Rupert Murdoch, a media household name, Cowell said that the past 10 years were among the best he had had in his lifetime.

Other winners at the awards included the Portuguese production, ‘My Love’, which won in the Telenovela category, and Israel Traffic Light which took the title for Best Comedy. The comedy is based on the lives of three childhood friends in their thirties. CQC, which is a satirical news review in Argentina, won in the non-scripted entertainment award category. In addition, the ‘Red Bean Cake’, which is a documentary about a single mother suffering from cancer who sells cakes to make ends meet, won the documentary prize.
