U.S. Advice on Government Disregarded By Iraqi Leaders

In Baghdad, the Iraqi political leaders and lawmakers are steering from dwindling American influence. So much that they will not be looking to the U.S for advice on forming a government.

Obama Pressured on Account of Gay Military Ban

A debate has put the Obama administration in an awkward position ahead of the congressional election. The Republicans are expected to make big gains, as they are largely in favor of the ban.
President Obama insists in support of the end of the ban even though he has received strong backing from gay rights activists in the 2008 election.

There is legal uncertainty over the future of the Military’s controls on banning homosexuals by the Pentagon.
The “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy keeps swaying between on and off has been revoked and reinstated by U.S courts, further fueling confusion within the military. Activists are working to legally ensure the ban ends, as Congress had failed to come up with its own.

Unemployment Claims Fall By Over 20,000

On Thursday the Labor Department stated the number of people applying for jobless benefits fell from 475,000 in the previous week to 452,000 last week. Even with the 23,000 drop, it’s an indication unemployment was still at a high, and the figure still too high to reverse a major increase in the previous week.
This drop came after the revision of the previous week’s figures which depicted a 26,000 rise, nearly double the increase the department reported initially.

Juan Williams Muslim Remarks Got Him Fired

Juan Williams, the National Public Radio news analysts faced the sack over comments he made on Fox news, which raised the debate over Americans attitude towards Muslims, post 9/11.
Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesperson on the council on American-Islamic relations stated that through such comments, Williams was legitimizing racial profiling of Muslims. Gregory Isaacs, the reggae music legend died today morning of lung cancer in London at his home. He was 59 years old.
