When the whole world is looking to restrict smoking in public places and that ban been spreading from malls to restaurants or even cars carrying children, Las Vegas seems to be the only place where it is being ignored. Puff of smoke coming out from a burning cigarette can be visible in Las Vegas even in no smoking zones.
Although, the people of Nevada had voted for the ban of cigarette smoking in public places, there still remains an exception in the casinos where smoking is allowed. This exception has been possible because of the very powerful gambling industry running there. A federal case lawsuit has also been filed worth $5 million against the Wynn Las Vegas to enforce the hotel authorities to guard its workers against the smoke filled environment but to no avail. Instead, new technologies were introduced which would clean the air when its filled with smoke.
Even members of the city’s tourism industry agree that there is a direct connection between the gamblers and the smokers. This relation is causing a threat and seems like smoking will be difficult to eradicate from the casinos since the gambling industry is involved more with reckless and risky behaviour.
Even the customers or the visitors who make it to the casinos feel this is a part of the gambling life. Smoking is like a part and parcel which helps the gambling industry to survive. They do not think cigarettes to be illegal and thus see no harm in smoking them.
Thus, its difficult to eradicate smoking from the casinos in Las Vegas.
