San Francisco Marathon Traffic

San Francisco Traffic

The 32nd edition of San Francisco Marathon started and more traffic disruptions will take place along the marathon routes, but many detours will be clearly posted around.

The Golden Gate Bridge was configured to one northbound lane and two southbound lanes between 6 and 9 a.m. The Vista Point and southeast parking lots was closed from midnight and will be re-opened around of 10 a.m.

At the Embarcadero the traffic will be closed between Broadway and Third streets until 1:45 p.m.
The streets 26 and 27 avenues will be also closed to traffic and in the Mission District, the driver should use Highway 101 if possible to cross the 15, 16 and 17th streets while using Kezar Drive, Steiner or Fillmore streets should be the best options to cross Haight Street.

Trying to offer the best climate for the competitors, combined with a lower traffic time frame, the organizers started the race in more “waves”. The marathon started from the Embarcadero, near the Ferry Building and it and will have the finish line in the same place. The Full Marathon started at 5:30 a.m. The First Half Marathon competitors will follow at 6:32 a.m.

The 5,000 meters Progressive Marathon will sprint at 7:45 a.m. and the Second Half Marathon will finish the adults competition, starting at 8:15 a.m. The spectators will wait the main athletes to finish the race and applaud the winners, but in the mean time they will be able to encourage their kids which will start their new Munchkin Kids Fun Run at 8:30 a.m, a premiere for the San Francisco Marathon.

The traffic is expected to regain its normality after 2 p.m. The Brilliant Stories will continue to keep you updated about San Francisco Marathon 2010 Edition.
